6 Days, 5 Cakes, 1 Woman...

In a nut shell, I bit off more then I could chew last week when I said... "I'll make it!" when asked to do cakes.

The first one was for my niece Jessica's 17th birthday.
I made a vanilla rainbow marble cake on Sunday (21st Feb) and then on Monday I cut it into a 1 and a 7 covered it in purple basic icing and decorated it.

Next it was Zoey's birthday cake that she wanted to take in to school and share with her class. She requested a rainbow rainbow cake.
I made the cake on Tuesday, almost the same as I did for Jess's, just put the mix in the baking dish in a different way.
Then on Wednesday morning I cut it the best I could to make a rainbow shape and then made up a meringue frosting to go over the top.
This was the first time i'd made this type of icing, while it was delicious, it was extremely sticky and messy, so I cant see myself making it again in the foreseeable future.
Anyhoo, after I let the frosting set a little I got out my glitter icing pens and drew the coloured lines on it, wacked on 7 candles and it was done.
It was greeted with 25 WHOAASSS when I walked into the room with it.

This is what some of the inside looked like its missing the blue and orange

When I got home from Zoey's school (around 3:15) I made a start on the next cake.
My first ever attempt at a carrot cake for my sister-in-law Robyn.
Like with every cake I cook there is some sort of visit from the drama llama, this time he came twice.
The first time in the form of misreading the recipe which said one teaspoon of cinnamon, my hubby relayed to me it was one tablespoon. But the batter tasted OK still, I just had to hope that the cooked version did too!
By now I was starting to run out of time VERY quickly and I started getting a bit flustered.
Without thinking I lifted this gargantuan cake of the rack to put it on the tray not thinking that it had barely come out of the oven.
Guess what.... it cracked! In three places! ARGHHH
Ahh well, at least I didn't drop it on the floor.
I didn't have a clue how to make cream cheese icing for it so I made purple lemon icing instead, I was surprised at how nice it turned out.
And again after icing I decorated. Please pay no attention to the canyons in this one :P

During the day on Thursday, I started making the fondant bits and pieces for Zoey's cake for Saturday. for 4 and a half hours I sat there cutting, rolling, shaping and toothpicking things to attach to the main cake.
Thursday evening I made, for the very first time, an orange cake!
This cake was for my brother-in-law Chris.
I let it cool over night and the next day I decorated it.
First thing was digging a hole in the cake for the blue jelly to sit, then I crumb coated it let that set then made orange flavoured & coloured icing to go over that and stuck the lollies on.
I did the top first then each side one by one as I stuck malt sticks all around.
I had one side to go, and I ran out of malt sticks so I went shopping, came home and baked the cakes I needed for Zoey's cake's for the following day.
Then I filled the pool added more jelly babies and it was done with an hour to spare before the party.

Next... the cake that had been haunting my dreams for 2 weeks.
Zoey's castle for her party.
Like I said earlier, I started making this one on Thursday.
Friday night after we got home from the party, I stuck the 2 chocolate cakes I made earlier in the day together. Rolled out a massive lot of pink fondant and placed it over the cakes.
Smoothed it all out then stuck the 4 towers and the top bit on to it, followed by the flowers and the grass.
With a big sigh, I was finished and went to bed.
Now, remember how I mentioned the drama llama likes to visit? well this time it came in the form of a 3 year old.
While I was in the shower Saturday morning, Jack decided to do some redecorating. He pulled one of the towers of, squished the fondant in places and stabbed holes in it with a toothpick. You can quite clearly see one of the holes in the front right tower.

In the end everyone seemed to love their cakes.
As long as someone appreciates it, thats all that matters to me.
But maybe next time ill put a limit on how many cakes I will make in a week.
Special thanks to my amazing husband that put up with me stressing, helped in the kitchen and did all the washing up after. You are my angel!

Well drama llama has left the building...for now

Time to follow up on the previous blog's ARGHS

The car passed its pink slips, all they did was replace my wipers and its all good, NRMA sent me out a new greenslip and...

The car is now registered Woot.

My knight in shining armour came to the rescue with $500 loan (thanks daddy, I love you!)

The only gripe there is the killer waiting time at the RTA.

"Sorry, we are short staffed today people are off with the flu"

Err then hire some freakin temps!

It was fabulous fun, the office was packed and Jackbean was not content with my cuddles.

But Its all over and done with now thankfully.

Now, what else was there...

Oh the immunisation drama. A lady rang me back just as I was heading out the door (typical huh) But she said she would forward the information onto the register, but I needed to come in and talk to the doctor about Jackbeans 18 month shot (which is for the chicken pox which he had last year, that was horrible :( ) and discuss whether he should have it or not and if not then get the doc to send the register a fax stating so.

The other day I get a msg from J telling me some money has been dropped into our account. Wasn't much info attached so I rang centerlink and they told me it was for jackbeans immunisations. (btw I still think its disgusting that they pay you to have your kids vaccinated) I wasn't expecting that given the chickenpox thing but its not linked to the centerlink thing so yay. But i'm going to go to docs tomorrow though I need my 3rd & final cervical cancer shot and get jackbean sorted out as well.

Very crap afternoon funeral at 12 then a needle :( lucky i'm tough... in the physical sense.

And that's it! Except that Its been very quite here at home. Z-monster is staying at my parents house for a few days. Her first ever holiday away without mum! its all very exciting. Miss her heaps though.

Love you my Zoey!

What a bloody day.

Yes yes I know I’ve not blogged in ages. I forget k sorry get over it :D

What a bloody day.

My car is unregistered because the clowns at the RTA sent the stuff to the wrong address (yes I had changed it after we moved) me being oblivious, didn’t notice the date on the sticker on my car. It wasn’t till I visited the people at our old place to get random mail did I realise.
So today I ring up our mechanics first thing to book it in for a pink slip. No dramas there I can pop in this arvy with the car. They did remind me about a green slip… oh crap, can anyone give us a lend?
So how do I get me and kids from there to somewhere else while I wait? I sms’d sis in law to ring me when she finishes at work.
I go outside and hack at the crepe mertyl tree for a while, gardening can be so therapeutic!
While I was out there the mail man arrived and gave me a few letters bill, bill, centerlink letter… what do these shitheads want now… ill get to that later.
I came inside. Time to find out wtfs happened to my green slip letter. I had changed the address with NRMA as well. Guess what! Their records still show our old address
*sigh*
So I fixed that up and then she said have you only got one car?
Yeah only the one I replied.
She said well there are 2 registrations.
Erm what?
She rattles off some other rego and then mine. Turns out for what ever mongloid reason the rego from when it was a QLD car were still stuck in the records, even though I did the whole blue slip change over thing 2 years ago! So discounts etc weren’t going through drama llama strikes again
So that’s sorted out but we still need to pull $370 out of our arses for a green slip as well as what ever this pink slips going to cost and then the cost of registration.
Well cars sorted for now.
What did centerlink want? It was a letter informing me that Jackbeans immunisations weren’t up to date. Um yes they friggen are!!
I ring up the immunisation register and ask them whats going on. Because I have in jackbeans little blue book with all of his shots written in it.
She said that they only have part of 2 months, no 4 months, no 12 months, and no 18 months (there is no 18 months in his books) they do however, have his 6 month shots.
The only reason she could think of is that the lazy freakin doctors at the medical centre didn’t bother to put them through.
I rang the medical centre and told them what was going on and the lady at the other end had absolutely no clue to what should happen next so she took my numbers and said shed get someone that knows what to do to ring me.
Well that’s real bloody dandy seeing as I have to get Zoey at 2:30 then take the car to the mechanics! So I have to take all this paper work with me everywhere now *joy*
At least sister in law rang me and even though she’s dying from the flu she is right to give me a lift back to her place while the cars getting looked at.
So that’s my day so far and there is still another 10 hours before its over.
Wonder what else could possibly happen?

Happy New year

Well its that time of year again... The end of it!
I must admit it hasn't been the best of years, loosing one of  my pop's in march the catastrophe with my big bro, the kids getting chicken pox, my uncles heart troubles, another uncle with clots, my perforated septum and my own personal demons Ive been facing. That just the stuff i can think of off the top of my noggin.
But we did buy a house and the settlements in 11 more days, so we are starting a brand new year in our own home. A fresh start to living, to life and to me.
My wonderful friends and family, I hope that this year has been kinder to you and that this next one will be filled with happiness, joy, love and new experiences.
Happy new year!
Love Katie
